Frequently asked questions

How verified revenue, deals, documents and escrow work on Shaida.

Verified revenue

What does “verified” mean?

The revenue was read from the payment provider itself, not typed in by the founder. It is imported once with a key from your provider (read-only where the provider supports one). We don't keep the key, and the listing shows the date revenue is verified through. A startup marked “self-reported” has not been verified, and it can't be sold until live tracking has verified it.

Do founders have to share a secret key?

We ask for a read-only key where the provider offers one. Paystack and Flutterwave can't limit keys, so for them it is a full-access key. In every case we use it once to import your revenue and don't store it, and we ask you to delete it afterwards. Before selling, you re-verify with a new key.

Why isn't my startup public straight away?

Webhook startups are listed after 30 days of live tracking, starting with the first payment. That gives buyers a real history to look at, and we email you when it goes public.

Can I stay anonymous?

Yes. An anonymous listing hides the startup's name, logo, website and founder from the public while still showing the verified numbers.

Buying and selling

How does a deal work?

A buyer contacts the seller and they talk in the inbox. They can then sign an NDA, agree a Letter of Intent, and let the buyer check the seller's Paystack history through a view-only role. After that they agree an Asset Purchase Agreement, and, once escrow opens (coming soon), the buyer pays through it. The seller transfers the assets and the buyer confirms.

Are the NDA, LOI and APA legally binding?

They are drafts generated from the terms both sides agree in Shaida, and signing records each person's name and the time. They are not legal advice, so have a lawyer review them before real money moves. The escrow agreement itself is made on Escrow.com.

What happens if we disagree after signing?

Signed documents lock. To change one, either party can request changes, which clears the signatures and starts a new revision. The party who hasn't signed can also reject a draft.

Escrow and payments

Is escrow available yet?

Not yet. Payment handling through Escrow.com is coming soon. Until it opens you can list a startup, message buyers and sellers, and sign the NDA, LOI and APA. Please don't pay or transfer assets outside Shaida: wait for escrow to open so both sides are protected.

Does Shaida hold my money?

No. Escrow.com holds the buyer's payment until the buyer confirms the assets were received, then pays the seller. Both sides must verify their identity with Escrow.com first.

Which countries does escrow work in?

Escrow.com can't send money to or take money from bank accounts in some countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda and Ethiopia. A seller in one of those countries can still be paid if they have a bank account in a supported country. Check Escrow.com's current list before you rely on this.

What does it cost?

Listing is free. When a deal closes, Shaida charges 3%, split between buyer and seller, plus Escrow.com's fee. See the fees page.

What if something goes wrong?

Use the Report button on the other party's card in the deal panel and we will review it. The escrow transaction also has its own dispute process on Escrow.com.

Your data

Who can see my revenue and messages?

Verified revenue figures are public on your listing unless you list anonymously. Your messages and deal documents are visible only to you and the other party. Read the privacy policy for details.
